The Awards Ceremony was another fun event, and it so good that so many got to see old friends again. We thank everyone for coming and making the Tall Pines Horse Show family the best there is! Congratulations to all our winners, and especially our Grand Champions! We know it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and YOU know that is what makes you a Champion! Congratulations and a tip of the hat to you! Our first show is just around the corner, so work around the rain and chilly weather to get in top form. After discussion with a number of members, we only changed a few things in the Program, and they were in the Hunter ring. So stay dry, and warm and we will see you in February!
Special Note: On June 2, there is going to be a Reining Horse Clinic at the show grounds. It's going to be fun and low-key, so even if you've never tried it, and ride English - come on out! You will find another way to play with your horse and have some fun!
Facebook Fan Page We have a page! To access it, google Tall Pines Horse Show Facebook then click on! Sign in as a friend, then add your pictures and remarks, good ones of course!
Show Notes: The Open Ring starts at 8:00AM, and the Hunter Ring at 10:00AM. If you ARE showing in both rings, be sure to communicate with the gate-keepers so we know where you are and hold a gate when needs be.
Early Entry and Early Entry Discount: All early entries, and the attendant discount, will be done using the on-line form. There are still forms at the show office to sign up day-of, but early entries need to come in by the on-line form. Please do not send money; bring it with you on show day. It is just simpler that way.
Membership Forms: You can print out and bring membership forms with you on show day also; again - don't send them. Bring the completed form with your fee and turn it in at the office when you pick up your packet. Your points begin to accrue the day you turn it in. Memberships and fees must be renewed annually. We also keep those forms at the show office.
Check out the "Bulletin Board" for things for sale and wanted. Attach a picture of your item and a description and send to editor@tallpineshorseshow.com. Please also let us know when it's gone, so we can keep the page current.
If we don't have your email... ...send it to us. We'll send a note once in a while to remind you that we are still here and what we are up to. You can help us grow by telling all your friends about us, ask them to check the Website for all the news, and have them come out and play with us too! We really appreciate your help in getting the word out about our wonderful new place, making the effort to come out and show with us and all the feedback and suggestions you have given us. Thank you!
ON-LINE ENTRIES... We've created an on-line entry form for your convenience. To get the early entry discount, you must sign up by 9 PM on Thursday. Any entries coming in after 9 PM on Thursday (all emails are timed) will pay full day of show rate. ALSO, IF you are in the first 10 classes, you MUST enter 30 minutes before your ring starts on Saturday! We have to have your entries in order to complete our class sheets - then pass them out to the gate keepers and announcer in order to start the show on time. That takes a bit of time, so PLEASE, get in those first 10 classes EARLY!
"Spot me in a Crowd" Memorial Ride-A-Buck Class
We have become a large horse show family, blessed with so many wonderful horses on our show grounds. We get accustomed to seeing familiar faces and hearing familiar names over the loudspeakers as our horse/rider teams work hard and win ribbons. With any large group of horses, time takes our old dear friends. We lost a number this summer - different stables, varied reasons. All heartbreaking. Every horse is special, loved and so missed when they leave us. It's hard to believe something so big, powerful and full of life can be gone so quickly. Our "privately owned" horses leave a terrible hole in their family's heart. But the school horses, and especially the therapeutic school horses, leave a vacancy seemingly impossible to fill. Their kindness, patience, and tolerance of our lack of skill defies understanding. There is a very, very special place for them in heaven.
"Spot Me In A Crowd" was one such horse. He was a star at Pattison's Academy for Comprehensive Education. The Academy's sole mission is to improve the quality of life for children with multiple disabilities by providing a comprehensive education program that integrates educational curricula with functional rehabilitation instruction to maximize the potential and well being of the child and to ensure family inclusion.
One form of functional rehabilitation is therapy on horseback. "Spot me in a Crowd", an 20 year old Leopard Appaloosa from Enchanted Acres in Givhans, was one of these exceptional therapy equines that touched many of the young lives at Pattison's Academy. On October 4, 2010, "Spot" passed away due to intestinal difficulties leaving behind his special friends at Pattison's and his loving best friend and owner, Emily Herrick.
Annually beginning 2010 at the November show, we will hold a special, fun class in memory of "Spot" to to benefit Pattison's Academy, and a beautiful trophy, engraved with the winner's name and kept on display at R & D Western World for the year.
This is an Open class consisting of Walk-Trot only, English or Western, and bareback with no saddles or bareback pads permitted.
Entry fee for this class is $15. However, any and all donation amounts will be accepted! A "bill" will be placed under the rider's thigh, and CANNOT be taped, glued, or attached in any way to the rider or the rider's clothing. After it falls, the rider is out, and the rider/horse team is excused to the center of the arena until a winner is determined. The last rider/horse team remaining with a bill still under the rider's thigh, after walk-trot-halt-back in both directions, wins. That rider's name and year will be engraved on the traveling trophy and will be awarded during the Tall Pines year-end awards ceremony. The trophy must be returned the next year on or before the November show. Of the monies collected, 10% goes towards ribbon for the next year 40% goes to the winner of the class, and 50% goes to Pattison's Academy.
In addition to the name on the trophy and 40% of the money, the winner also gets a beautiful commemorative sash ribbon!
When the entries get too numerous to hold just one class, it will be divided into a Youth and an Adult division. The winner from the youth division and the winner from the adult division will then have a ride-off. The winner of the ride-off will win the trophy.
